Aboriginal and First Nations cultures in Canada have a long tradition of adaptation and creativity, incorporating new ideas, concepts, materials and technology, to affirm core community values, ensure cultural continuity and reflect contemporary experience. Nowhere is this spirit of cultural vitality and resilience more apparent than in the expressive arts; in music, theatre, film, writing and the visual arts. Today’s presenters demonstrate how aesthetic traditions can be perpetuated and transformed through new media and new voices. These voices contribute to an ongoing national and global conversation on indigenous knowledge and experience. Today, we are invited to participate in this conversation. |
