NOTE: We will soon have a map up but here are couple of photographs of Chateau Montebello to get on with.

1. Le Chateau Montebello is in Montebello, Quebec, Canada, conveniently between Ottawa and Montreal on the Ottawa River. From the U.S. you would enter Canada at the Montreal or the Ogdensburg border.

2. The Chateau is the world's largest log structure, built in the 1930's, and is a popular spot for world summit conferences. The hotel provides a quiet atmosphere with many places to chat, in front of fireplaces in the vast lobby (drinks can be served there), in the mezzanine, or in the large bar. The grounds are beautiful, including a riding stable and indoor swimming pool.

3. We are taking over the entire hotel for the conference and chose it for its informal but luxurious ambience, its convenience to points of entry for our U.S. colleagues and the convenience of our Maritime, Quebec and Ontario colleagues - its only about 50 miles from Montreal or Ottawa.

4. The dining is five-star quality but we are organizing a special menu so that those who wish to spend can eat luxuriously and those who are more frugal will have more economical options. You can eat in the hotel or walk 15 min. into Montebello where there are several cheap to moderately priced restaurants - including excellent poutine for less than three dollars.

5. Rooms will cost $100Cdn (U.S. $75) for single occupancy with a charge of $10Cdn (U.S. $7.50) per extra occupant. That is $55 Cdn (U.S. $36) per night for a shared room with a queen sized bed to yourself. There are two queen sized beds in many rooms and we can register up to four people per room (i.e. $32.50 Cdn. or U.S. $ 24.50 per person).

6. The DEADLINE for room bookings is February 11, 1997. Please do this earlier!

7. The Chateau would be a wonderful place to extend your stay into a quiet holiday or you could continue in Ottawa or Montreal. The conference organizers would be happy to advise you regarding places to stay and things to see.
