This course surveys the history of human rights from their philosophical foundations to the present times. It will address various countries, and will keep a particular attention to the Canadian dimension of each question. The first lectures will be devoted to a chronological history, while most of the term will be organised around aspects of social life where human rights have become especially important. Textbook:
