MSc or PhD Position to study carbon cycling in a constructed wetland in Alberta’s Oilsands
We are looking for a student to study the energy, water, CO2 and CH4 fluxes over a large constructed fen wetland recently commissioned summer of 2012. A variety of measurement techniques may be used for this work including eddy covariance and chamber techniques to measure fluxes and both optical data (in both narrow and broad wavelength bands) and field observations to characterize surface characteristics and how they change over time. Work will be in collaboration with Dr. Carey’s group at McMaster University. A BA or BSc or MSc in any of the following or related disciplines would be advantageous: physical geography, environmental science, atmospheric science, soil science or biology. Starting September 2013. Funding is available.
MSc Position in forest microclimatology and trace gas exchange
We are looking for a motivated individual to study the impact of forest biomass removal for bioenergy on a variety of ecosystem processes in Northern Ontario with industrial and government partners. A BA or BSc in any of the following or related disciplines would be advantageous: physical geography, environmental science, soil science or biology. Starting September 2013.
MSc or PhD positions in other topics
I would be happy to hear from anyone with project ideas for MSc or PhD research related to the ongoing research programs at Mer Bleue, Daring Lake or the Alberta Oilsands. Funded positions may be available. Also, please keep in mind the upcoming deadlines for external funding opportunities for students through NSERC and OGS. I would be happy to work with individuals in preparing these scholarship applications.
