CHEM 1000 Laboratories

Laboratories are scheduled to begin on Wednesday September 16, 2009, or on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, depending which lab group you are in. (Groups are not the same as sections.) Lab groups will be posted here early in September.

Students should purchase a NEW laboratory manual ($10.50) and a hard cover laboratory notebook ($6.50) from the College of Natural Science Stores (Room 118-SC). These are required for the first lab period. The schedule of experiments is in the front of the lab manual. Students should prepare accordingly.

The wearing of safety goggles and lab coats is MANDATORY AT ALL TIMES. Safety goggles may be purchased ($9.50-$16.50) from Stores (Room 118-SC). Goggles must be worn over Prescription glasses. Contact lenses should not be worn in the lab. Lab coats may be purchased ($18.50) in Room 118 SC.  

A non-refundable laboratory fee of $10.00 is required to reimburse the Department for loss, breakage and wear and tear of glassware and equipment. Before proceeding to the first laboratory session, students must obtain a “Laboratory Receipt” from Stores and surrender this receipt at the first lab period to the Technologist responsible for the course. 

Completion of the laboratory work is required to pass the course. The laboratory is worth 30% of the final course grade. 

Students who have completed the laboratory previously may apply for an exemption from the laboratory work to the laboratory supervisor, Mastaneh Azad. This should be done immediately.
