High School Class Visits to the Chemistry Department

The schedule for Winter 2012 visits is:

8:45 AM                Arrive at the Steacie Building
9:00 - 11:30           Perform the laboratory experiment, Spectrophotometric Determination of Iron, in the Superlab
11:30 - 12:30        Attend a regularly scheduled first year CHEM 1002 lecture in Theatre B, Southam Building
12:30 -                    Lunch in the Food Court. Campus Tour if desired.

1. Students should be prepared in advance for the lab experiment. The outline can be downloaded here.
2. Appropriate dress is required for laboratory safety. Students must have closed shoes (i.e. no sandals) and their legs should be covered (long pants). We will supply safety glasses. Lab coats are not required.
3. It is important to arrive on time at the front door of the Steacie Building so the TA can guide the class to the lab or the classroom. A map of the campus appears below. The Steacie Building is number 12 on the map, and the lecture hall is on the first level of Southam Hall, which is building number 4.
4. Students should bring their own lunch or money to buy lunch in the food court, which is in the University Centre, building 22.
