Welcome to Economics 2002
(formerly 43.202),
Sections E and T

  • Nature of Course:  ECON 2002 is an intermediate course in microeconomics (prices and markets), the first of two such courses taught at Carleton for economics majors.  This course is also required of business majors at Carleton, and is open to anyone meeting the prerequisite requirements, which are given below.  By clicking on "Outline" above, prospective students can learn more about the sections taught by Prof. Carson, including the television and distance education section of ECON 2002.
  • Prof. Carson's office:  Room B850 Loeb.  Phone: (613) 520-2600, ext. 1751. E-mail: rcarson @ccs.carleton.ca. Office Hours:  T-Th. 3-4 p.m.
  • Class schedule:  ECON 2002T will be telecast on Digital Channel 240 this fall (2005) on Sunday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (or from 1800 to 2100).  This class will also be available throughout North America via Distance Education. For information about distance education and reception of CUTV courses, please go to the CUTV website. ECON 2002E will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:05 p.m. to 5:25 p.m. in Southam Hall, Room 624.
  • Downloading: Both CUTV and in-class students must download the index page (this page), the course outline, the review questions, and the refresher tests from this website, whose basic URL is <www.carleton.ca/~rcarson>.  The review questions are crucial to this course.  These materials will not be available from the Economics department or the Materials Distribution Centre.
  • Prerequisites:  Economics 43.100 or any university-level Principles of Economics course (with a grade of C- or better) and Mathematics 69.109*, which may be taken concurrently with ECON 2002, as outlined in the 2005-2006 University Calendar. Credit will not be given for both ECON 2001 and ECON 2002.
For more information about this course and the economics curriculum at Carleton, please visit the Carleton University Course Calendar. Students with disabilities requiring academic accommodations in this course are encouraged to contact the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities (500 University Centre) to complete the necessary forms. After registering with the Centre, make an appointment to meet with me in order to discuss your needs at least two weeks before the first in-class test or CUTV midterm exam. This will allow for sufficient time to process your request. Please note the following deadlines for submitting completed forms to the PMC for formally scheduled exam accommodations: November 7th, 2005 for fall and fall/winter term courses, and March 10, 2006 for winter term courses.
