What is the Data Centre?
Data Centre, Carleton University Library
Ottawa, Canada

The Data Centre was originally part of the Social Sciences Data Archives, located in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.  Its function was to serve as a depository for data and encourage use of the data by faculty and students.

Today, the Data Centre is a part of MADGIC (Maps, Data and Government Information  Centre), located on the main floor of the Library.

We are staffed mainly by S Science students from the university. The students at the Data Centre help users obtain documentation and access to data held here and with other institutions and individuals. We also consider individual requests for assistance with data analysis and the use of UNIX, SPSS and other software packages. Please see our directory of full-time members and consultants for e-mail addresses and phone numbers.

Three times a year, we put out our Data Centre News Bytes. It updates the reader on the latest happenings of the Data Centre, as well as the latest data sets we have acquired.

Most of our data is on-line and consists of machine-readable data and documentation.  Data is made available to faculty, students, and staff for research purposes only, and must be acquired in person through the Data Centre.

For information regarding access restrictions to data, please view our License Agreements.
