- German politicians view Russian election results positively
Boris Yeltsin's victory in the Russian parliamentary elections was received
positively in Germany. Chancellor Kohl, too, was pleased with the outcome.
Kohl wrote that wi
th their vote, the Russian people impressively support the
process of reforms toward democracy and market economy. He added a personal
note saying that he wishes Yeltsin strength, health and success for the coming
years.
Federal President Herz
og congratulated Yeltsin on the reelection. In a
telegram released to the public in Bonn today, Herzog wrote that the people of
Russia have credited Yeltsin with his democratic maturity and the determination
for further reforms. Herzog assured that Germ
any will stand at Russia's side
today and in the future. Former Foreign Minister Genscher also views the
outcome of the elections as a vote for continuing the reform process. The
SPD's expert on foreign policy, Mr. Vogt, said on Deutschlandradio Berlin
the good
news is that Russia is finally finding the path toward democracy and market
economy despite the many contradictions and conflicts.
